In general, world tree nut production has been experiencing a sustained rise over the last decade. In the 2022/23 season, global tree nut production increased by 21% compared to 2018/19, amounting to around 5.3 million metric tons (MT).


Almonds have historically ranked first as the world most produced tree nut, followed by walnuts, cashews and pistachios, which have usually ranked third at different times over the last decade due to the alternate bearing phenomenon (“on” and “off” years) (Figure 2).
